Getting Dome: Live Wrestling in Japan

There's one bit of Internet Wrestling Community (IWC) lore that I've never understood and it's the idea that wrestling just hits better when it happens in Japan. Or to be more specific, it's that a match happening in the Tokyo Dome adds like two or three extra stars if you're going off of Dave Meltzer's scale. Did Meltzer originate this shit? If so, fuck him. But then on the other hand, I think there's maybe something to it. I don't mean to brag too much, but I've been to my share of wrestling shows in Japan. Mostly in Tokyo and mostly over a decade ago, but the point still stands. I got to watch wrestling in Tokyo, I got to see legends in the ring, and I also got to see some pretty great fucking wrestling in the meantime. So in this blog post, I wanted to walk down memory lane a bit while also giving my thoughts on the last show I saw, Wrestle Dynasty. But let us begin at the beginning and that means going all the way back to 2006. October 6, 2006 -...

A Rant About Being a Wrestling Fan in 2025 USA, Trans Edition

I had wanted my first post to this blog to be about my experiences attending live events in Japan. That's still coming, but there's been some things that happened over the past few days that I've been turning over in my head and the more I do the more annoyed I get. So rather than let that fester or turn into an angry thread on social media, let's do this instead. So like, what the fuck is up with WWE fans right now anyway? Is that harsh? I hope so. Keep in mind, this is not going to be about the quality of their current product. I don't like it, but I can abide the existence of a wrestling company with bad wrestling even if they're trying to make the sport a homogenized and boring version of itself. If that's all they were doing I wouldn't have my hackles up as much as they are these days. No, my big "gripe" goes beyond that. Much of this stems directly out of the current and ongoing Vince McMahon sex trafficking case that saw the man thrown ...
Welcome! This is the wrestling blog I've been threatening to start for like several months now and the time has come to actually make the damn thing.  To be entirely honest, I had fallen out of love with talking about wrestling for the longest time. I still watched shows, but I had long since fallen out of the habit of actively sharing my thoughts with people on storylines, matches, and major non-kayfabe events. I was behind a locked account on the site formerly known as Twitter and the majority of my mutuals there weren't interested in professional wrestling.  Getting onto Bluesky changed that. I suddenly found people who actually liked talking about wrestling beyond just weird promotion dick riding. There were wrestling fans who actually liked wrestling and weren't just getting into tribalist flame wars for clicks. Wrestlesky in those early days reinvigorated not just my love for this sport of kings, but actually talking about it. I found my voice for speaking about wh...
